The Privilege The Pain

MBBS .. Four magical letters .. the dream , the sweat, the life of thousands. To have it behind ur name, wat wudnt u do? People dont understand why students like me go thru a nightmare of improvement .. turn down engineering seats others would kill for , People wont understand why we are willing to give up on so many pleasures .. why we r willing to live a life of hard demanding work ..

the magic is still .. MBBS..

After a decision of science and biology after tenth std, and after getting over 95 percent in twelfth , learning u lost ur precious MBBS seat by two marks .. u wud think i'd have taken the engineering seats in GCT .. nope .. i packed my bags .. to waste a year and write board exams all over again .. after a hellish year.. after literally shedding my blood and sweat , i ended with 97.88 percent and wat happens??? i am short by 0.3 .. irony? fate? watever it was, it was incredibly painful ..

Anyway . . .. after a lot of tears, i got into dentistry ..
Dentistry is a very difficult, very demanding course .. wat makes it worthwhile? my eyes tear up , whenever smeone calls me a doctor .. whenever smeone literally cries frm relief after so much pain .. a patient with no teeth at the age of 38 , after she gets a new denture.. the thanks i get cos her teenage sons are so ashamed to take her out .. and nw .. they r happy .. its very fulfilling ..

still .. the pang never ever goes away .. looking at a stethoscope.. hearing the .. Oh.. u r a dentist? nt a doctor? line .. the hushed discussions some patients have " she's a dentist, why is she talking about heart disease? " .. it cuts deep .. im nt using this blog to tell u wat dentists learn ..we do learn almost everything MBBS students learn for the first three years.

this is just a confession of an aspiring MBBS student.. trying to live on the consolation of being , Dr.Vidhya BDS ..

Sometimes i always wondered. Why is that the "system" refuses so many "wanna be doctors". It is a pity because we are also the country we needs doctors badly. We refuse seats in the name of reservation and all bull crap and then cry for help. :(

But you know what, i have always remembered to thank my dentist more than any doctor just because of the relief i get from the monsterous pain. :D

You will do great doctor. :)

Umm..nicely written. But you didn't miss much. Even with doctors they some how loose that tag a lil later for something else.

Well, nicely written... But, you will be a good DOC soon, giving more smile than ever before on people's face.
